Needs Assessments

Upon joining MVRMA, a Needs Assessment is provided for each new member city through an outside loss control consultant. The intent of the Needs Assessment is three-fold:

1. Assess the existing Safety and Loss Control Program to identify areas of strength and weakness;

2. Identify and prioritize existing or potential exposures to risk to enable the city to establish target goals and objectives relating to safety; and

3. Recommend and tailor specific Loss Control methods and activities to strengthen the performance of the City with respect to Safety and Loss Control.

It is not intended for the Needs Assessment to simply criticize a City's Safety and Loss Control Program or indict individuals for failing to sufficiently address safety responsibilities. Instead, it is valuable to view this report as a developmental tool--an action plan for inspecting, expanding, formalizing and documenting safety-related activities and responsibilities occurring within the City organization. The recommendations made are advisory and are intended to ensure that basic Safety and Loss Control responsibilities are being addressed, so as to benefit all pool members, in the long-run.

The assessment is prepared with information provided through interviews with various key supervisory personnel. Departments/Divisions warranting separate evaluations often include:

Police
Fire
Parks & Recreation
Public Service (Streets, Water/Sewer, Forestry, Fleet Maintenance)
Wastewater/Water Pollution Control
Water Filtration
